Haul & dispose off site 25,000m3 of bulk & detailed excavation, backfill behind external perimeter walls and installation of 1,800 lm of IBO anchors and 1,000 m2 of shotcrete shoring.
Under contract with Onni, Hall Constructors completed this 35,000 m3 excavation & shoring project using their barge facility for ocean disposal of all clean, native material. Hall was able to work with Onni to phase the excavation and allow the formwork contractor to begin early work on the back half of the site while Hall finished at the front. This meant that the first suspended slab could be poured before the detail excavation was complete.
Hall Constructors was contracted by Cressey Developments to complete this 31,000 m3 excavation and shoring project associated with a new residential development on the south side of Marine Drive in West Vancouver. The bottom portion of the excavation proved difficult due to very dense sandstone and siltstone which required extensive hoe-ramming in order to break up and remove the soils from site.
Hall Constructors completed the excavation and shoring for this 118 unit condominium project, which was managed by Marcon Construction. Included in the 17,000 m3 excavation was the safe remediation of contaminated soils which were discovered during the work. As the project is located across the street from City Hall in New Westminster, much care and attention went into implementing safety measures to protect the pedestrians, vehicles and workers in this high traffic area. Hall Constructors returned to complete the road works and street lighting after the building construction was in the finishing stages.
Hall Constructors was contracted by Metro-Can Construction to complete this 25,000 m3 excavation & shoring project. The bottom half of the excavation proved difficult as significant groundwater was discovered as digging progressed. Conventional pumping could not keep up to the water in the sandy ground, and Hall worked with the Owner to install a dewatering system to lower the local water table. In the end, Hall wrapped up another successful project by craning their excavator out of the excavation.
Hall Constructors completed the site preparation and bulk excavation for Marcon Construction on the Portraits project in Burnaby. The work for this residential condo development involves diverting the existing underground utilities, bulk excavation of 17,000 m3, shoring, detail excavation and extending the existing creek through the property. The creek work was executed during the DFO’s fisheries window to minimize impact on the existing fish habitat.
Excavation and shoring for a senior care home living complex. This project included the construction or permanent shotcrete walls that were finished to match the natural rock outcrops in the area.
Hall Constructors was contracted by Ventana Construction Corp. to complete the excavation and shoring for this new development which includes ground floor commercial with residential condos above. Since anchors could not be drilled at one corner of the site, Hall installed a steel bracing system to retain wall of the excavation. Hall also brought in additional equipment to break through the bedrock and boulders that were present at the bottom of the excavation.
This new UBC mixed development is managed by Ledcor Construction. The building will serve as residence and lecture hall for students. Excavation began in late January 2012, and was completed in May 2012. The total excavation volume of this phase was approximately 17,000m3. The challenges of this project were the pedestrian traffic management and aggressive schedule objectives.
This 65,000 m3 excavation and shoring project was completed for ENM Construction in late 2016 and early 2017 to assist in the construction of a midrise apartment in Northwest Langley. The site was large enough that no shotcrete shoring was required and all sides of the excavation were sloped. The biggest challenge on this job was dealing with the large amount of rain and snow encountered throughout the fall and winter.
